Christian sets off on his "pilgrimage" all cheerful but when he rests and falls asleep his dreams haunt him.
lyrics
WHO KNOWS / SONG OF THE NIGHT
WHO KNOWS
Never use to have a future, but that's not so anymore;
The past's behind me, I've closed the door.
Life is a miracle, life is sweet
And under the road's rolling out from under my feet,
I'm gonna find where it goes,
Who know
s what'll happened, who knows.
Now I have a future that's in store,
Ive just opened up a brand new door
And today's a fantasy , today's good news.
And the road's ruling out from under my shoes,
I'm going to follow whoever it goes,
Who knows what'll happen, who knows.
With the book to guide me
I can change the world,
I'm learning about miracles
I see them all around me,
Ev' ry day they amaze and astound me,
Ev' ry day the sun comes up
Just like the day before,
But every day's a different day
with different things to in store
I can guess the future, what is more,
I've just found a key to a prison door,
And I've got a new song going round in my head;
And the road's rolling out like a silvery thread,
I'm going to reach wherever it goes,
who knows what'll happen, who knows.
I feel a little tired now,
and the say is far too bright,
I'd like to rest a little while
So I'll whistle up some night.
During the last verse, Christian has found a place to sleep. He lies down as the lights are dimmed. As he sings the final line, he becomes aware that is is cold and lonely. Sound effects of wind with leaves blowing across the stage. Eerie light effects.
SONG OF THE NIGHT
I am the night, I am dark, I'm everywhere.
I'm beyond the very bound'ries
of every face except the face of time.
I'll go when the dawn comes,
But until the dawn comes the word is mine,
all is mine, you are mine.
CHRISTIAN
Oh come on, I'm not afraid of the dark. I'm strong.
NIGHT AND CHORUS
Ah!
CHRISTIAN:
Yes, strong, strong!
CHOIR
Too strong to feel a doubt,
too strong to fear
far too strong for us.
we know you, we know you, ooh.......
CHRISTIAN:
I know no doubt I know no fear,
You can't touch me, you don't know me,
deep inside there burns a light,
and see, here's the book to show me
APPOLYON:
(SPEAKS):
Aah, send a little breeze
send a small dark wind
to blow upon this great illuminated soul
blow, blow, blow dark, blow keen.
Cut like a knife
slice quick beneath the skin
let him see within,
let him know that bravery is
a shaving, shaven by the wind,
ha, ha, ha!
